Supermarket provides some festive cheer for Afghan refugees

AFGHAN refugees have been given some Christmas cheer by supermarket customers in Leamington.

Morrisons Leamington ran Operation Snowfall for the second time by asking customers to fill shoeboxes with items for refugees.

Alex Pearson, the store’s community champion, who started Operation Snowfall last year, explained: “Last Christmas we needed to support families around us who maybe would struggle to buy many presents due to being made furlough or losing jobs during the pandemic.

“This year we knew issues would be the refugees from Afghanistan and homeless people. “Everyone deserves a Christmas. Our amazing customers picked up shoe boxes which were donated by Sports Direct in the Royal Priors and Clarks at the Shires.

“Customers filled the boxes to the relevant label and I was blown away with the generosity of the customers.”

Debbie Potter and Anja Gill both volunteered to wrap all the boxes and Warwickshire Search and Rescue and Warwick mayor Richard Edgington also chipped in to help.
