A SURGE in anonymous crime information in Warwickshire has been marked by the Crimestoppers charity.
The independent charity has experienced a 25 per cent increase in reports from residents over the last year who stepped up to speak out safely about crime.
Crimestoppers encourages people to pass on information about crime completely anonymously either by phone or via an online form.
And from April 2016 to last March, records showed contact centre staff handled over 1,000 Warwickshire-related reports.
The highest number of reports related to drugs, drink or disqualified drivers, possession of weapons and sexual offences.
The charity are appealing for new volunteers who can spare two or three hours a week, and who wish to make a difference in the community.
Warwickshire volunteer Jane McCann said: “Our volunteers work on the ground and live in the community. They play a vital role in connecting the work of the national charity at local level.
“The position will particularly appeal to anyone who has a few hours to spare each week and a desire to give back to the community. As the charity boosts its efforts to reach more vulnerable communities, volunteers who have skills around campaigns, social media and fundraising are especially welcome to apply.”
