Swinging 60s Dream at Leamington Loft Theatre

A MIDSUMMER Night’s Dream is given a Swinging 60s makeover at Leamington’s Loft Theatre.

Four love-drunk teens, escaped from the confines of an oppressive regime, caught in a dispute of increasingly magical proportions.

A posse of wannabe actors, determined to put on a play against the odds. The Fairy Queen and King at war, and one wild spirit hell-bent on causing as much havoc as possible. What could possibly go wrong?

The production of Shakespeare’s comedy promises an explosion of colourful chaos which will transport audiences back to the 60s.

Director Michael Rolfe said: “The frantic nature of the Elizabethan era may not have been too far removed from the Swinging 60s. Raleigh discovered potatoes and tobacco after all. It was a decade that saw deference disappear and some sort of new equality obtained and there are parallels and similarities to this in the themes and narrative of The Dream.

“Bringing the two strands together has allowed us to look at a lot of things in the Dream in a new way.”

A Midsummer Night’s Dream runs from November 30 to December 10.
