Talented art student scoops prestigious award

A TALENTED student has scooped a prestigious award after impressing with her artistic skills.

Romany Cavalla completed an art and design course at Warwickshire College’s Leamington site and was nominated for the college’s Foundation Award.

It is sponsored by The Arts Society Leamington with tutors voting for the winner.

Romany will now be given a £300 bursary for her upcoming university course in Illustration. She will also receive an extra £150 a year.

The 19 year-old said: “I’m really pleased to have been presented with the award and the bursary will be so helpful.

“I wasn’t sure right at the beginning of the course what direction I would go in. I’d always been interested in animation and illustration, and my mum is a textile teacher, but the fine art element in my work wasn’t something I was expecting.”

And course leader Sue Henderson said: “Romany has been so committed right from the beginning of the course, soaking everything up and supporting other students as well. She’s really embraced the opportunity and we will really miss her in the studio.

“Her work is very special, with a fusion of fine art, illustration, graphics, textiles and jewellery and we are very proud of her.”
