GLOBAL engineering giant Tata Technologies is set to provide a major boost to the district’s economy following the opening of its new European headquarters in Warwick today.

The firm’s £20million European Innovation and Development Centre on Tachbrook Park will create 200 new jobs for design engineers and programme managers. The state-of-the-art building will be home to some 600 staff in total.

The headquarters will house the firm’s engineering support services, as well as a modern research and development centre to further enable Tata to take advantages of growth opportunities – particularly in the automotive, aerospace and industrial machinery sectors.

The centre will serve as the company’s European headquarters and follows the opening of new delivery centres in Paris and Gothenburg earlier this year.

Warren Harris, chief executive of Tata Technologies, said: “The opening of the European Innovation and Development Centre is a coming of age for Tata Technologies, showcasing our commitment and confidence in our UK operations for the long

term.

“We’re especially happy to be creating more than 200 high quality jobs in the UK for qualified technicians and engineers.

“Our investment in the EIDC will ensure we continue to meet our UK and international clients’ evolving demands for innovation.”

Tata Technologies will use its relationships with regional universities to help fill the new jobs. The company has close ties with Coventry University, backing the university’s Ada Lovelace scheme which supports women studying courses in its faculty of engineering and computing. The company also has a partnership with Warwick University and is exploring collaborations with Birmingham, Aston and Loughborough universities as key partners for recruitment and training.

Warwick District Council leader Andrew Mobbs was pleased to welcomed Tata to the district.

Coun Mobbs said: “As a council, we are delighted that our efforts in assisting Tata Technologies to relocate to the district have paid off and it shows that we are committed to doing everything we can to support new and existing business in the area.

“We are looking forward to a long and positive relationship with Tata Technologies for the foreseeable future.”

The new headquarters, which received planning permission from the district council in September 2016, were built on a 3.8 acre site by Leamington-based developers AC Lloyd.
