Teddy knitter bringing smiles to faces all over the world

A KEEN knitter from Warwick is bringing a smile to faces of suffering children around the world.

When June Scott, who lives in St Nicholas Church Street, settles down to watch some television in an evening she also likes to knit – she puts her skills to good use by creating Teddies for Tragedies.

The charity sends handmade teddies to children around the globe who may be caught in war zones or areas hit by natural disasters.

And June’s efforts with the knitting needles have seen her nominated for a Creative Champion Award for her generosity and knitting skills.

Some 300 nominations were sent in for the Happy Living Awards run by Anchor, England’s largest not-for-profit care and housing provider.

June, who has lived at Castlegate Mews for 15 years, said: “I was very taken aback when I was told about the nomination. But I am thrilled!

“I just want to help people and Teddies for Tragedies was the perfect way.”

The awards cover six categories -Green Fingered Customer, Best Neighbour, Creative Champion, Grandparent of the Year, Community Champion and Best Pet.

The winner will be announced in January.
