Teenagers needed for new RSC project

THE RSC is looking for teenagers to help make theatre history.

The company is looking to recruit 13-16 year-old to take part in reIMAGINE, a new project inspired by the RSC’s theatre-making history.

Those who take part will spend time with the RSC’s Events and Exhibitions team in Stratford to produce a special event in the town over Shakespeare’s Birthday weekend next April.

The RSC’s Events and Exhibitions department is responsible for a whole host of activities including talks, debates and demonstrations which give a deeper insight into the RSC’s theatre productions.

The team also programmes exhibitions, including the recently opened The Play’s The Thing, revealing the history of the world famous theatre company.

During their time with the RSC the 15 chosen teenagers will find out more about the RSC’s Collection and Archive, hear from people who work behind the scenes, and work together to devise a public event aimed at their own age group.

Rabiyah K Latif, RSC Participation and Outreach Officer, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for young people to create a special event inspired by the RSC’s rich heritage.

“Those selected will get to find out more about the RSC’s history through our Collection and Archive, which includes items such as costumes worn by the likes of Judi Dench, David Tennant and Ian McKellen.

“They’ll also learn more about the world backstage and how we make our productions come to life. Using the experience they gain, they will then put together an event, aimed specifically at capturing the imaginations of their own age group. No experience is necessary – what’s important is enthusiasm, commitment, and an interest in our theatre history and working as part of a team.”

Deadline for applications is Tuesday December 13. The group will meet for eight sessions every other Monday evening at the RSC’s base in Stratford from January 16.
