TEENAGERS are lending a helping hand this summer.

A team of 16 year-olds are volunteering at the Sycamores care home in Sydenham to raise awareness of dementia as part of government backed project called The Challenge aimed to get young people helping others.

Maddie Milner, who is is among the team, said: “The scheme sets out a series of challenges one of them is carrying out a social action project in our area. We chose to spend time working with a care home in Sydenham who specialise in dementia care.

“We will be volunteering in the home, which will be sponsored, and the money raised will be donated to the care home.”

The team recently got the backing of Leamington mayor Caroline Evetts when they popped along to meet her in Jephson Gardens.

Coun Evetts said: “I was very impressed by the young people who are connecting to their local community through this worthy social action project.”
