The Gesualdo Six tune up for Warwick

THE GESUALDO Six are returning to Warwick.

The musical six-piece will be performing at St Mary’s Church on Tuesday February 28 as Leamington Music’s monthly series of early music concerts continues.

It will be The Gesualdo Six’s fourth visit to the town since first performing there in 2017.

And this time the group bring a new programme of music associated with the Court of Ferrara in a series devised by director Owain Park about the legacy of Josquin des Prez, whose dates are 1440 to 1521. At the height of the Renaissance in Italy, the northern Italian city of Ferrara attracted many leading composers from what is now Belgium and France.

The programme covers music composed over a span of a hundred years. Besides works by Josquin himself, there are pieces by Brumel, Compère, Divitis, Festa, de Févin, L’Héritier, Mouton and de la Rue.

Having started the month in Germany, The Gesualdo Six are currently on a North American tour of ten concerts. The group returns to England to come to Warwick at the end of the month, before flying out to Australia and New Zealand for another tour of at least six concerts.

The director of the Six, Owain Park, sings the bass line alongside a countertenor, two tenors, a baritone and another bass.

Tickets are available at www.leamingtonmusic.org or by calling 01926 334418 or in person at the Royal Pump Rooms, Leamington or the Court House in Warwick.
