Theatre company looks forward to next 100 years

A THEATRE company which has been entertaining audiences in Leamington for more than a century is seeking a helping hand to continue doing so for another 100 years.

The Loft Theatre Company, the town’s only independent live theatre, is launching a major Capital Appeal to fund urgent infrastructure upgrades.

With no public funding from local authorities or the Arts Council, the Victoria Colonnade theatre has relied solely on ticket sales and the generosity of its community for 104 years.

A Loft spokesman said: “This summer, we embark on our most ambitious capital project in over half a century. The theatre’s roof, heating, air-conditioning, and ventilation systems are in critical need of renewal.

“The project will secure the theatre’s infrastructure, improve the comfort of our audiences, reduce our annual running costs, help the environment by switching to systems that run entirely on electricity (rather than the gas systems we currently use), and enhance the experience of all those who volunteer at the Loft, including actors, creative teams, managers, front of house staff, and technicians.

“The total project budget is £500,000, and work will take place over the summer. While grants and reserves will cover part of the cost, we are calling on our community to help raise the remaining funds.

“Whether you’ve enjoyed a performance at the Loft or simply believe in the power of live theatre, your support matters. Donations of all sizes are welcome, and Gift Aid can increase your contribution by 25 per cent at no extra cost if you’re a UK taxpayer.

“Together, we can ensure the Loft continues entertaining audiences for another 100 years.”

Supporters will be recognised on the Loft’s website, and higher tiers include exclusive benefits such as behind-the-scenes tours, priority booking, complimentary tickets, and invitations to our end-of-project celebration.
