Thieves use explosives to blow open cash machine at Rugby store

POLICE are hunting thieves who used explosives to blow open a cash machine in Rugby in the early hours of the morning.

They targeted an ATM at the Co-op store in Scholars Drive, Cawston, around at 3.40am on Friday.

A witness, who heard the  explosion, described seeing two averagely built men, dressed all in black, running fast towards Bilton School field carrying a white bin liner.

Police were on the scene five minutes later where they found the front window of the store smashed and explosion damaged ATM.




Although there was significant damage inside the store it was not structural.

THe theives got away with an unknown amount of cash.


Police made an immediate search of the area in an attempt to locate the theives and are appealing for witnesses who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously.

Detectives are also keen to hear from anyone who saw a blue Golf or a black Jeep driving at speed in or around the Rugby containing three or four people.
