Traveller encampment moves to Stratford

TRAVELLERS have returned to Stratford Leisure Centre car park.

It is thought it is the same encampment which has been jumping between Stratford and Warwick districts since late last year.

Stratford District Council is waiting for an eviction order from the court and has served the group notice.

Some 50 caravans had been at the centre’s carpark in Bridgefoot, on and off throughout December. They were finally evicted on January 8, leaving the district council to clean up mess in their wake.

The encampment made the short hop over to the recreation ground before being served a second order by the council.

It moved on to Bishopton, disrupting the park and ride service, before leaving the district for Leamington.

Members of the public voiced concerns over the welfare of dogs seen around the camps, prompting police and the RSPCA to visit the sites. The RSPCA said while conditions were not ideal, there were no grounds for arrests to be made.
