Travellers wreak havoc at a Warwick football club

TRAVELLERS have wreaked havoc at a Warwick football club.

Members of Central Ajax Football Club have been cleaning up the destruction left by travellers who set up camp at the Hampton Road on Tuesday night.

The club pleaded with the travellers to leave after they damaged the gates to get in – which were locked just minutes earlier.

The club said its main fear was its annual charity tournament at the weekend would have to be cancelled.

But the travellers have left the site after police stepped in and served an eviction notice.

A club spokesperson has confirmed “We have taken steps to secure the site and tomorrow the hard work begins to prepare our tournament.”

The club has asked for help from the council with cleaning up human waste.

It is not known if it was the same travellers which took over the car park at Warwick Parkway Station days before – causing problems for many commuters.
