TV cookery star Howard helps fund-raisers

AMATEUR bakers pulled on their aprons for a Great British Bake Off fundraiser.

The Southam Baking Circle held the event to raise funds for the group and welcomed former bake off contestant Howard Middleton.

He gave a demonstration of how to make gluten-free carrot cupcakes using a recipe from his new book ‘Delicious Gluten Free Baking’.

Howard’s time in the show in 2013 saw him the victim of two unfortunate accidents when host Sue Perkins leaned her elbow on his muffins ,and the following week fellow contestant Deborah accidentally used his custard in her trifle.

But he put his baking demons behind him to take on the role of Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood and judge an egg custard tart technical challenge.

The evening raised £120 for the club.

Founder Mandy Rowlatt said: “Thus has been a fantastic year for the baking circle which has seen our club go from strength to strength – not only have we supported a local charity we had a great fun hosting our children’s workshop and helping to influence the next generation of bakers.

“We were delighted to have welcomed Howard to our group and all our members thoroughly enjoyed themselves.”
