Virtual reality app highlights road safety

Leamington Editorial 17th Mar, 2018   0

A NEW road safety app aims to keep youngsters safe in Warwickshire.

The virtual reality app, aimed at 11 and 12-year-olds, shows the consequences of taking risks when walking to school.

Nationally the number of serious accidents peak among pupils who have just started secondary school as many begin to make their own way to and from school alone for the first time.

The film, commissioned by Warwickshire County Council’s road safety education team, will be launched in time for the new school year in September.

Road safety spokesman Coun Jeff Clarke said: “At Warwickshire County Council we put children at the heart of everything we do and their safety when walking to and from school is our main priority.

“This new app is the ideal way to reinforce the road safety messages for this age group and work towards reducing road related injuries.”
