Virtual tour allows Bard fans to explore Shakespeare's Birthplace

Leamington Editorial 8th May, 2021   0

SHAKESPEARE fans will be able to step into the Bard’s boyhood shoes during English Tourism Week this month.

During the week May 22 to 31, people from all over the world can experience the playwright’s humble beginnings through a virtual tour of his childhood home.

Historian Michael Wood has narrated a series of videos which guide virtual visitors around the Birthplace and exhibition, bringing Shakespeare’s story to life. The videos can be streamed direct to smartphones by scanning the QR codes.

Viewers can hear fascinating tales of 16th century family life, see the workshop where his father John ran his trade as a glove maker, get up close to rare artifacts including the Second Folio – a revised edition – of Mr. William Shakespeare’s Comedies, Histories & Tragedies, published in 1632. It contains over 1,700 improvements, including entrances and exits of characters, and the first printed work by poet John Milton – a sonnet entitled An Epitaph on the ‘Dramaticke Poet W. Shakespeare’.

Virtual visitors can also step into the gardens and enjoy the sights and smells of plants and flowers Shakespeare would have known or wrote about in his plays and poems.
