Volunteers answer call to help out

GREEN-FINGERED volunteers dug deep to revamp the gardens of a Leamington day centre.

As part of a corporate community day, a team from Vodaphone spent time at The Fordsfield Centre painting, clearing brambles, creating raised beds, building a bird box and bench, and planting trees in the garden.

The Bury Road centre, which is run by Heart of England Mencap, helps people with learning and physical disabilities.

Helena Wallis, Heart of England Mencap chief executive, said: “We are delighted the Vodafone team chose Heart of England Mencap and their contribution will make such a difference to the people we support at the centre.

“Having an outdoor space that is calming, with the opportunity to plant seeds and watch them grow, feed the birds and pick fruit from the trees is really important not only in helping them to engage with nature but also to reduce feelings of anxiety.”
