Volunteers needed to help build path in historic graveyard

VOLUNTEERS are needed to help build a path in an historic south Leamington graveyard this weekend.

Community group ARC has been working with residents to tidy up New Street burial ground over the past few months, and now has permission from church authorities to carry improvements.

Work has started to lay down a stepping stone path for visitors who can learn all about the history of the site and the people buried there.

Project manager Kristie Naimo said: “As well as improving the space by gardening, we know there is a lot of history in the burial ground which we would like to let more people know about. There will be some signage and interpretation coming soon.”

The volunteers will also be installing a ‘bug hotel’ to encourage more insect life.

This weekend’s volunteer session to continue building the path is on Sunday from 2pm to 4pm. All tools will be provided and all ages are welcome.

The group also continue to garden every Thursday between 2pm and 4pm, and welcome people to join them or drop in for a chat to learn more about the project

Search New Street Nature Park on Facebook and Twitter, or visit www.arccic.co.uk for further details.
