Voters in Warwick district going to the polls for historic EU referendum

VOTERS in Warwick district are going to the polls today (Thursday) to decide whether Britain should stay in the European Union.

Polling stations will be open throughout the district from 7am to 10pm at which point the ballot boxes will go to Stoneleigh Park for verification.

The count will kick off around 10.30am with the result for Warwick district – depending on turnout – expected anytime from 2am.

The results from the Warwick count and other counts in the area will be collated regionally by Birmingham City Council. The regional figures across the country will then be collated by Manchester City Council to produce a national result.

It is anticipated the national result will be declared sometime on Friday (June 24).

Key political figures have been campaigning in recent weeks in a bid to convince voters to either stay or leave the EU but experts say the result is too close to call.

Warwick and Leamington and Kenilworth and Southam MPs Chris White and Jeremy Wright are voting to stay in the EU while their Stratford counterpart, Nadhim Zahawi is backing a Brexit.
