Warwick canal enthusiasts in running for award

CANAL enthusiasts in Warwick have been recognised for their efforts.

Saltisford Canal Arm has been named as a finalist in the Canal and River Trusts (CART) Living Waterways Awards.

Staff, trustees and volunteers have been working hard to make improvements to the site, which is a short walk from Warwick town centre and is home to seven permanent residents in their own narrow boats.

The results of the awards, which celebrate the work done by individuals, communities and organisations to improve canals, rivers, lochs and lakes, will be announced in September.

Mike Dutton, chairman of the Saltisford Canal Trust, said “These are very prestigious awards and we are thrilled to have been identified as one of only twenty finalists by CART assessors.

“We are always looking for volunteers to help improve our facilities and ensure the Saltisford Arm is well used and although our actual placing will not be revealed until next month, getting to the finals stage is quite an accolade.”
