Warwick craftsman creates Easter display on children's book treasured by late wife

A CRAFTSMAN from Warwick has designed an Easter display based on a children’s book treasured by his late wife.

Cliff Woodward has hand-cut and painted some 20 rabbit figures, based on the 1940’s book ‘Bunty and the Bunnies’, given to his wife Kathleen by her father, who was often away in the army.

The Woodloes Estate resident, who lost his wife four years ago, still has the original book, with a personal inscription inside the front cover.

And the former draftsman has recreated the creatures in full colour, despite the book being printed in black and red ink only.

The Easter display display aims to complement the egg hunt organised by Woodloes Community Event team for families on the estate off Birmngham Road.

The fund-raiser – the latest in a string of charity events organised for the estate – will be in aid of Adoption UK. Cliff is also offering the figures for sale following the event.

After their move to the area in the 1970s, Cliff and Kathleen – known for her flower-arranging skills – quickly established a reputation for decorating their home and garden for locals to enjoy.

The pair would produce lit-up displays and entertain neighbours visiting the illuminations with refreshments and music.

The Easter Egg Hunt runs from noon until 4.30pm on Easter day (April 3).

An Easter hamper raffle is also being run on the day. Tickets are on sale at the Select and Save Supermarket on the estate.
