Warwick Fusilier Museum given cash boost

WARWICK’S Fusilier Museum has been given a cash boost.

The Somme Lest We Forget concert of remembrance at Bedworth Civic Hall raised £1,770 which was donated to the museum at St John’s House.

Chair of the museum trustees, John Rice said: “I’m so delighted to receive this cheque. In these financially difficult times it is only with the support of lots of different people and organisations that the museum will thrive in the future.

“The money will do so much to enable us to keep the memory alive of those who served in the county infantry regiment.

“We are all stories – somebody’s son, daughter, father or mother. We’re remembering soldiers like Charles and Albert Blakemore, brothers from Warwick who both died in the war.”

Colin Simmons, who helped organise the concert as well as performing with the Coventry Singers on the night, said: “I feel strongly that we should remember those who gave so much.

“And that I believe is what the museum tries to do, to remember those who served in the regiment and to tell their story to people.

“That’s why we are pleased to be supporting the museum again this year.”
