Warwick and Leamington losing Monopoly race

WARWICK and Leamington are losing the race to  be the first to pass go and win their very own version of Monopoly.

But residents are being urged not to give up hope of Jephson Gardens or Warwick Castle winning a square on the iconic board game by casting a vote for their favourite before the end of the month.

Neighbouring Stratford is currently out in front of those shortlisted with 31.4 per cent of the vote – ahead of Shrewsbury with 25.3, Warwick with 19.8, Gloucester with 16, and Leamington with 7.5.

“Each are proving extremely strong contenders,” said Natasha Rebuck, Custom Games Development Executive at Winning Moves UK, who are making this official version of Monopoly under license from game owners Hasbro.

“We originally began with a list of 12, but have shortlisted these down to five. At the moment with polls closing pretty soon Stratford is winning.

“If Stratford does go on to emerge triumphant then it will not just be a Monopoly board but a Monopoly bard.”

Customised features will see the four train stations from the London original being handed over to a ‘travel’ theme.

And many of the Chance and Community Chest playing cards will also be heavily customised.

If Warwick or Leamington were to win, players could even find themselves collecting £10 from each player by winning a competition in The Observer.

The game featuring the winning town or city will go into production to be ready in time for Christmas and will hit shop shelves in October.

To vote email [email protected] or by traditional post to Monopoly West Midlands, Winning Moves UK, 7 Praed Street, London W2 1NP.

Polls close at midnight on Monday February 29. The winning location will be announced in the spring.
