Warwick parks recognised among the world's best

SOME of the best parks in the world are right here in Warwick district.

The Green Flag Award Scheme run by Keep Britain Tidy – the mark of a quality green space – recognised Foundry Wood, Myton Pools, Jephson Gardens, Oakley Wood and Crackley Woods as some of the best in the UK.

It is the second year Foundry Wood in Leamington has received the recognition, and the 12th year in a row for Jephson Gardens.

Friends of Foundry Wood – a group of volunteers which looks after the site – is delighted about the award.

Chairman Kristie Naimo said: “We know how much quality green spaces matter to residents and visitors, and this award celebrates the dedication that goes into maintaining Foundry Wood to such a high standard. We’ve recently added new handrails in to improve access and will be putting in additional seating later in the summer.”

And Warwick District Council was equally delighted to have scooped three awards.

Neighbourhood services spokeswoman Coun Moira-Ann Grainger said: “To receive three Green Flag Awards is a truly outstanding achievement. These awards recognise and highlight that local people and visitors to Warwick District are benefitting from green spaces of the very highest quality.

“I don’t believe we could have won these awards without the hard work of the volunteers who come out in all weathers to assist us in maintaining and improving these wonderful places.”
