Warwickshire Police needs to make improvment

WARWICKSHIRE Police needs to make improvements.

That is the verdict of HMICFRS (Her Majesty’s Inspector of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services) following an inspection carried out in the spring looking into whether the force uses its powers fairly and treats people with respect.

The report examined leadership, how officers and staff were treated by the force, and how in turn that related to their treatment of the public.

While the report concluded there had been some very good work done by officers and staff since the last report in 2016, there were still areas where more work was needed.

The overall verdict was the force ‘requires improvement’.

The report judged the force needed to improve how it kept people safe and reduced crime.

It also needed to improve aspects of the way it treated all the people it served with fairness and respect; ensuring its workforce behaved ethically and lawfully; and aspects of treating its workforce with fairness and respect.

Improved points highlighted in the report included the introduction of Body Worn Video, good use of scrutiny to improve how stop and search was used, and senior management promoting the importance of diversity and inclusion.

Warwickshire Police Asst Ch Con Richard Moore said: “While we are disappointed with the ‘requires improvement’ rating, the report does recognise that much good work has already been done in the vital areas of policing it covers.

“We are committed to treating people with fairness, ensuring we act ethically and lawfully and treating our workforce with fairness and respect. We will use the findings of the report to ensure that we build on the progress already made in these areas and continue to improve.”
