Watch out for fraudsters posing as detectives, police warn

Leamington Editorial 19th Dec, 2015 Updated: 28th Oct, 2016   0

FRAUDSTERS posing as detectives are targeting the elderly and vulnerable in a bid to raid their bank details.

Warwickshire Police isĀ  urging people to be vigilant after courier fraud incidents were reported. The most recent cases were in Kenilworth and Bishops Tachbrook.

The fraudsters call and state they are detectives investigating serious fraud to do with their bank accounts – in a bid to get them to handover personal information, bank cards and even money.

The fraudsters will say the victim’s bank cards have been used fraudulently, and ask them to contact their bank. They then stay on the line to hear the bank details before sending a courier to collect the bank card, using it to withdraw cash.

Police are warning residents not to hand out personal details over the phone.

They also say to hang up and call 101 from a different phone if they receive a similar call and that they or any bank would never ask for a PIN number or send a courier to collect a card.
