Graffiti vandals tag Wellesbourne

WELLESBOURNE residents are being urged to report graffiti vandals to police.

The plea comes following a recent spate across the village in the amount of criminal damage being carried out through graffiti attacks.

And police say they now need the help of people to identify those responsible for carrying out the attacks – known colloquially as ‘tags.’

They are encouraging people to look out for tags being practised on school books, for people with spray paint cans, or anyone acting suspiciously around sites where graffiti is already present.

A spokesperson for Warwickshire Police said: “Graffiti vandalism damages buildings, public places, vehicles, and highways. “Graffiti also destroys property, costs the council and communities large amounts of money in clean-up costs each year and has a negative impact on neighbourhoods as well as inviting further vandalism.

“Warwickshire Police takes a zero tolerance approach with anyone identified or caught writing graffiti arrested and brought to the police station.

“We want this to stop and as a community, we can work together to address this quality of life issue but we need help. It’s your village so please help police identify those responsible and return Wellesbourne to a graffiti-free environment.”

If residents witness anyone committing criminal damage by graffiti, police say they should avoid taking matters into their own hands and instead call 999.

Where a graffiti attack has already been carried out and there were no suspects seen, they advise people to visit their website online at www.warwickshire.police.uk/wells where the police can be contacted via a number of methods.

Alternatively, people can also report suspected graffiti vandals anonymously through Crimestoppers at www.crimestoppers-uk.org or by calling 0800 555 111.
