Wellesbourne strong man aims to break two car pull world records

A STRONG man hailing from Wellesbourne is hoping to do the double.

Matthew Cooper is aiming to break two world records by pulling a car 52.4 miles – the equivalent of two marathons.

He hopes to not only notch up the fastest ever marathon pulling a car but also, by completing the first ever double marathon, the longest distance to ever pull a car as well.

The world record attempt will begin at the Home Guard Club in Tiddington in the early hours of Thursday September 7 and will culminate – all being well – on Saturday September 9 back at the Home Guard Club where there will be a family day and barbecue to celebrate.

All the cash raised in sponsorship for the marathon car pull will be donated to Beat, the UK’s leading charity supporting those suffering from eating disorders.

Matthew said: “I grew up just down the road in Wellesbourne before leaving to join the military, and although I have left the army and moved to Oxfordshire, completing such a mammoth task just down the road from where I grew up makes me incredibly proud.

“It is a chance to support the charity, the Home Guard Club and for world records to be claimed in the Stratford area.”
