WORK by one of the world’s greatest silversmiths has been unearthed in Knowle.

A Georg Jensen silver bowl and spoon were brought along to a free antiques valuation day held by Hansons Auctioneers at The Royal British Legion.

The bowl was valued at around £2,500 while the spoon could reach around £200,

Decorative arts expert John Keightley said: “Georg Jensen was a world-renowned silversmith and his work is highly collectable.

“It’s wonderful to see items like this come into our valuation days. It proves, yet again, that the people of Warwickshire have some wonderful treasures in their homes.”

Jensen was born in 1866 in Denmark. He made such an impact that, when he died in 1935, the New York Herald saluted him as ‘the greatest silversmith of the last 300 years’.

The items will feature in a Decorative Art Auction on Tuesday October 24 at Hanson’s Auctioneers in Deryshire.

A valuation day will be held at St Francis of Assisi Church Hall in Kenilworth on Thursday (October 12). Asian art expert Lars Tharp will be one of the experts on hand.
