A HUSBAND who has been diagnosed with an incurable disease, is calling for help with treatment to allow him more time with his family.
Seb Bousie, who lives in Ettington, was recently diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease – the condition which affected Professor Stephen Hawking.
And like the world famous scientist, 32-year-old Seb is among a small number of patients diagnosed before age 55.
The disease causes muscles to become unresponsive to nerve cells, which control activity, leading to wastage.
Sufferers gradually lose the ability to move, speak and even breathe. It can shorten life expectancy but some patients live with it for years.
Seb, an IT engineer, said: “To say it was devastating to be told that I would slowly lose the ability to walk, use my arms and hands, speak or swallow and then finally breathe is an understatement.
“My 28-year-old wife Kirsty and I married a mere three years ago and had our lives mapped out. Now we have a incurable battle to fight, one which we will almost certainly lose.”
The couple have pinned their hopes on a new treatment called Edaravone, available in the USA, and a second treatment in Australia, both which have shown to slow the progression of the condition.
They must raise some £10,000 to afford the treatment and travel costs and have set up an online fundraiser, with a target of £1,500.
In a heartfelt plea Seb wrote on the fundraising page: “With best intentions, I can’t fund accessing this treatment alone – I hate to ask, but can you help me access treatment and give me a few more years with my wife, family and friends?
“Thank you from every fibre of my being for listening and any donation you can afford.”
