LESSONS on sex and relationships should be taught in all schools say youngsters.
A poll by Barnardo’s saw more than three quarters of pupils aged between 11 and 15 agree all children would be safer if they had age-appropriate classes on the subject.
The result supports calls by the national children’s charity for the government to introduce compulsory sex and relationships education.
The poll also revealed virtually all youngsters thought it was important for them to understand potential dangers when online in order to stay safe.
Barnardo’s regional director Hugh Sherriffe said it was time for the government to listen to children saying they needed help understanding the risks when on the internet.
He said: “Online grooming is a very real danger facing all children and nearly half of the girls polled said they were worried about strangers contacting them online.
“Compulsory sex and relationship lessons for all children must be introduced as soon as possible.
“These children have spoken loud and clear and the Government must not ignore them.”
