LEAMINGTON saw their three-game unbeaten run in the league come to an end following a 3-1 defeat at Macclesfield.

On the club’s first-ever visit to Moss Rose, Max Brogan put the visitors ahead with a stunning goal moments before the break.

However, Paul Dawson equalised for the home side on the hour mark before James Gale scored a brace to condemn the Brakes to defeat.

The result means Leamington remain bottom of the National League North table, 12 points from safety.

Chris Knott’s side made the home team work for the points with Macclesfield next in action against Premier League club Brentford in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

The Brakes broke the deadlock in style on 43 minutes when Brogan lobbed the ball over home goalkeeper Max Dearnley from just inside the Macclesfield half.

However, the hosts equalised on 60 minutes as Dawson headed home from close range after Leamington failed to deal with a corner.

And Gale completed the turnaround seven minutes later with an emphatic finish past Rogan Ravenhill into the bottom left corner after he exchanged passes with D’Mani Mellor.

The home side sealed the points one minute from time when Gale intercepted Archie Crowther’s attempted backpass and finished into an empty net with Ravenhill stranded.

Leamington are next in action against Marine on Saturday, February 14 with kick-off at 3pm at Rossett Park.
