FOOTBALL - Racers maintain promotion push with Wolverhampton victory

RACING Club Warwick maintained their promotion push with a 2-0 win against 10-man Wolverhampton Casuals as the Racers claimed a sixth straight home victory.

Goals in either half from Archie Hamp and Cameron Ebbutt helped Racing to a comfortable win at Townsend Meadow as the home side clinched a third successive win without conceding.

The result means Warwick remain second in the Midland Football League Premier Division table, two points behind leaders Walsall Wood who have three games in hand.

Racing searched for an opener from the off as Wolverhampton goalkeeper Jake Granaghan made two superb saves to keep out Josh Parsons’ long range effort and Charlie Jones’ header.

However, Warwick eventually broke the deadlock on 22 minutes when Hamp headed home from James Hancocks’s corner

And Wolverhampton were then reduced to 10-men after Tom Hurley was shown a second yellow card with the Racers one goal to the good at the break.

Warwick settled the game early in the second half when Ebbutt’s free-kick deflected past Granaghan who was left stranded in the Wolverhampton goal.

Racing are next in action away at Walsall Wood on Tuesday, February 14 in a top of the table clash with kick-off at 7.45pm at the Titan Recruitment Stadium.
