London Marathon winner Eamonn Martin is speaker for 30th celebrations

THE last winner of the London Marathon, Eamonn Martin, was the guest of honour as Kenilworth Runners’ celebrated their 30th anniversary in stle on Saturday evening.

A special dinner at The Warwickshire saw the team come together to celebrate and remember 30 years of success at events all across the country and around the world.

Past and present members of the popular running club were in attendance, with membership numbers now up to around 250, which includes a thriving youth section of around 50.

The club is competing at the top level of the Birmingham Cross Country League and Ladies Midland League.




Former London Marathon and Chicago Marathon winner Martin gave many anecdotes on some of his past races, including when he first met Steve Ovett on the track and what went through his head during the last 400 metres of his London Marathon win.

Martin revealed how he used to run 100 miles rising to 130 miles per week to prepare for marathons.


Afterwards he presented Kev Hope with the Kenilworth Runners Cross Country Shield and ladies captain Danielle Mohacsi received the ladies Cross Country award on behalf of Louise Andrews, who was working hard for the NHS at the time.
