HORSE RACING: BROTHERS Dan and Harry Skelton recorded a quick double at Warwick Racecourse’s Grand Opening day on Tuesday afternoon.
Pleasant autumn sunshine greeted runners and riders as the new national hunt season dawned on Jockey Club South/West courses, and it was the local lads that stole the show.
Odds on favourite Blairs Cove landed the opening race with a comfortable two-and-three-quarter length win over Sword of Fete.
There was more reason for celebration in the team Skelton camp when Pretty Reckless (4/1) took the second race on the card, a handicap chase over 2m 4f.
Belmount, a runner up at last season’s April meeting at Cheltenham, took the feature handicap chase over 3m 1f for another family yard – the Twiston-Davies’.
There were wins elsewhere for Gorilla Tactics (10/1), Rebel Yeats (71), and Strongly Suggested (12/1) who sprung a surprise in the final race.
