BOXING: FITZPATRICK boxer Sean Leahy returned from a trip to London with his head held high, despite losing by split decision to National Development Championship finalist Stephen McDonagh.

Sean, the younger brother of star boxer Nick, faced the Fairbairn ABC prospect in a three-round contest, losing out by a fine margin.

But there were plenty of positives to take away from the performance, a comment underlined by coach Derek Fitzpatrick.

He said: “We thought Sean had done enough for the win.

“In our opinion he won two of the three rounds, but that said it was a close bout so credit to Stephen and his team.

“There wasn’t much in it, but there is a lot more to come from Sean.”

Elsewhere Simon Huruska had his second skills bout against Danson boxer Harry McGee.

Contested over three one-minute rounds, the fight allowed little opportunity to show their skills.

Both landed good shots in an evenly fought contest which resulted in valuable experience being gained.
