OLD Leamingtonians started the Midlands Three West (South) campaign with a 20-10 victory over Old Yardleians.
Winger Liam Wellings opened the scoring for OLs after just eight minutes.
Ten minutes later Tom Eales extended the visitors’ lead to 10-0 before he crossed the line again to put OLs well in control.
However, Yardleians battled back and got an unconverted try of their own to reduce the arrears to 15-5 and then 15-10 on the stroke of half-time.
The second half proved to be a scrappy affair but OLs managed to put some distance between themselves and Yardleians once more when debutant Joe Blackett scored in the corner.
This proved to be last of the action as OLs came away with five points.
OLs entertain Pinley on Saturday.
