A FINE batting effort from Leamington’s Jonathan Wigley was unable to inspire his side to victory in a two-wicket friendly defeat to Dumbleton on Saturday.

In Spa’s sole warm-up fixture of pre-season, the Leamington skipper put on a stand of 96 runs before being run out by Tom Green, with Nick Couzens’ unbeaten score of 36 the closest the hosts could come to repeating the feats of their free-scoring opener at Arlington Avenue.

Finishing on 237 all out in the 48th over, Dumbleton then edged their way to victory – despite an impressive four-wicket haul from Nabeel Ashgar in his ten overs served.

Spa head to Shifnal in their Birmingham & District Premier Division One opener on Saturday, April 17 next.

Before then, Leamington’s second string host Olton & West Warwick’s first-team on Saturday, prior to their Warwickshire County Division One curtain raiser at home to Handsworth the following weekend.
