ATHLETICS - Spa Striders compete across the country and in Europe

SPA Striders runners were in action around the country and in Europe with several members achieving personal best (PB) times.

Several Striders competed in the Shakespeare Stratford Half and Marathon races with Chris Liddle first home for Spa in the half marathon in a PB time 1 hour 14 minutes 56 seconds to secure an impressive fourth place finish.

He was followed by Darren Tosh (1:37:19), Rachel Wignell (1:38:56), Will Allman (1:39:23), Dan Robertson (1:43:29), Andy Roach (1:47:22), Andy Pope (1:47:52), Mike Cox (1:57:56), Rebecca Vaughan (2:07:11) and Bev Stephens, Emma Teevan and Tim Robb who all finished together (2:17:03).

And three Striders completed the marathon race with Kelsey Wiberley coming home in 3:24:01, Paul Harris in 4:08:31 and Andy Collins in 4:12:36.

Down on the South Coast, Dan Fleming set a new PB in Southampton running a marathon in 3:29:36 whilst John-Paul Hunt finished as the third male overall at the Tissington Trail Marathon in the Peak District finishing in 3:17:28.

Two Striders took part in the Big 10k Race in Leicester as Jason Hemming equalled his PB in a time of 41:49 whilst Claire Davidson was the fourth lady home in 42:06.

Elsewhere, five Striders completed the Southam Sprint Triathlon as Mike Pugh finished seventh overall in 1:03:20, Jenny Mills in 1:19:18 and Lucy Marcovich made her triathlon debut in 1:31:21.

And four Striders travelled to Belgium for the Liege Baston Liege cycling sportive which covers 160 miles and over 1400ft of climbing.

Rob Nash covered a very respectable 94 miles whilst Andy Owen, Kenny Gregor, James Bryant and Dave Mills all completed the event.

Lastly, Claire Edwards completed the Chirk Sprint Triathlon in North Wales in 1:41:27.
