ATHLETICS - Striders in action at home and abroad

SPA Striders competed far and wide last weekend as club athletes impressed in a variety of races at home and abroad.

Some five Striders headed to Milton Keynes in the latest installment of the Spring Marathon rush as Mike Pugh (3:23:02), Mel Venables (3:34:25), Andrew Stone (3:51:01), Ash Hogg (3:51:45) and Tamsin Tricker (4:46:50) all completed the race.

Elsewhere, Dexter Teale took on the May the Fourth Half Marathon in Church Stretton and excelled to win the race in a time of 2 hours 9 minutes 39 seconds.

Over in the United Arab Emirates, Kevin Baskerville completed the NYU Abu Dhabi Indoor Triathlon as he finished the 350m swim, 6.2km static bike ride and 1.5km run in 34 mins 21 secs.

In Toronto, Canada, Pete Teevan ran a superb time of 1 hr 28 mins 35 secs in the Toronto Half Marathon.

And in Michigan, United States of America, Kelsey and Jim Wiberley both ran the Michigan Made Half as the the former finished third overall and the first female in 1 hr 28 mins 31 secs whilst the latter came home in 1 hr 41 mins 2 secs.




Closer to home, Martin Clark ran the third and final day of the Scarpa Great Lakeland 3-Day Challenge as he posted times of 10:55:17, 7:15:54 and 4:26:38 across the three days.

Taking on arguably the biggest challenge of the weekend was Steve French who managed to run 88.3 miles of the Thames Path 100 before hip troubles forced him to pull up at Clifton Hampden whilst Georgie Acton completed the Dukeries 30 race.


In Birmingham, Jenny Mills took on her first half marathon of the year and ran her second fastest time over the distance to finish in 1 hr 50 mins 27 secs.

Lastly, at Walton Hall, Kath Miller, Claire Rawbone and Natalie Jackson strolled around the the 10k course to finish in 1 hr 14 mins 37 secs whilst Mark Robbins ran a quick 47 mins 53 secs and Jane Medwell completed the 5k route in 37 mins 44 secs.
