ATHLETICS - Striders in action at home and abroad

SPA Striders athletes were in action across the country and abroad which included a race around a theme park.

Striders runner Kev Baskerville took part in the 2022 Formula Run – a 10km indoor race around the Ferrari World theme park in Abu Dhabi – and finished in a time of 57 minutes 49 seconds.

Closer to home, Ben Howat was in action at the Tissington Trail half marathon and finished in 1 hour 59 mins 14 secs.

The Tissington Trail is the site of a former railway line from Ashbourne to Buxton, a 13-mile route from Parsley Hay to Ashbourne in Derbyshire.

And three more Striders were on the start line as Will Allman placed 16th in 1 hr 31 mins 53 secs whilst Abi Morton and Bev Stephens ran together and finished in 2 hrs 15 mins 59 secs and 2 hrs 16 mins 2 secs respectively.

Further afield, Striders athlete Bill Teasdale ran the Great Bristol Half and finished in 1 hr 33 mins 5 secs despite suffering from a leg injury.

There was a middle distance triathlon debut for Elaine Sherwin as she completed the Outlaw X event in North Nottinghamshire

She trained extremely hard for the race which comprised the longest ever bike and run distances she had ever completed with the swim reduced to 750-metres due to cold air temperatures.

Sherwin finished the event in 5 hrs 54 mins and 31 secs and beat both of her time goals for the bike and run legs respectively.
