ATHLETICS - Striders out in force in variety of races

Leamington Editorial 26th Oct, 2022   0

SPA Striders athletes competed in a variety of races over the last week.

Kevin Baskerville, sporting his bright pink running gear, took part in the Pink 10k for Breast Cancer and finished in a time of 54 minutes and 21 seconds despite the humid conditions and recently having Covid.

Elsewhere, four Striders took part in the Midlands Counties Cross Country Relays at Aldersley in Wolverhampton.

The men’s team were short on numbers to count, but there were some great performances and no doubt a good practice for the XC season ahead.

And the Tempo Winter 10k race series in Illmington also took place with this race the first of five in the series.

Kelsey Wibberley returned to racing with a podium finish and was the first Strider home in 46 mins 12 secs (third lady overall and second in her age category).

She was followed by Isla Colclasure in 49 mins 10 secs (fourth lady overall and third in her age category).

And Jim Wibberley (50.29) was followed by Paul Carrott (50.33), Abi Morton (1 hour 02 mins), Gary Perkins (1.04 and third in his age category), Miriam Scullion (1.07), Ellen Powell (1.19) and Natalie Jackson (1.52).

Elsewhere, two Striders travelled to Abingdon for an autumn marathon as Trevor Wilkinson 3.15.35 and new member Niel Strydom 2.57.52 both completed the race.

Lastly, Melissa Venables ran the Gower Trail (25 miles) and was the first lady finisher.
