SPA Striders athletes took in the sights of Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates and Giant’s Causeway in Northern Ireland whilst several members competed closer to home.
Club member Kevin Baskerville kicked off the week’s racing in Abu Dhabi with the DuYas Duathlon as he completed a 5k run, 20k bike ride and final 2.5km run in one hour and 25 minutes.
In Northern Ireland, Naomi Paterson took part in the Giant’s Causeway Trail run as she battled a rocky multi-terrain route along the Causeway Coast to finish the 20-mile race in 3 hrs, 19 mins 45 seconds.
Closer to home, eight Striders competed in the Manchester spring marathon as Adam Notley led the team home in a fantastic time of 2 hrs 39 mins 33 secs.
He was followed by Patrick Crummy and Marco Frondella who ran together and achieved new personal best’s (PB’s) to finish in 2:58:12 and 2:58:13 respectively.
They were followed by Chris Wilson who matched his PB of 2:59:26, Nathan Morris who set a new PB of 3:01:27, Rob Thompson 3:14:03, Ben Cohen 3:18:56 (PB) and Erika Wright 4:04:07 who completed her first marathon.
And in the Boston spring marathon, Jane Cummings and Euge McNally ran together and finished in 4:39:39 and 4:39:40 respectively.
Elsehwere, Jo and Dan Fleming took part in the first fixture of the Gosport 5k Summer Series as the latter finished in 19 mins 32 secs and the former in 19 mins 45 secs.
Lastly, George Smith ran 40:51 and Mark Robbins 44:54 in the Leicester Big 10k organised by Tempo Events.
