COUNTBACK was needed to determine the winner of a keenly contested Don Boam Cup at Kenilworth Golf Club on Sunday.
Simon Bisp 77, nett 68, lifted the trophy by virtue of a better back nine than Alastair Worden 93, nett 68, and Vince Healey 85, nett 68.
They were followed by Chris Owen 80, nett 69, Colin Smith 85, nett 69, and James Lamond 73, nett 70. Lamond did have the satisfaction of carding the best gross score.
The ladies competition was won by Ann Saywell 92, nett 71, fromn Emma Saywell 83, nett 72, Brigid Carrington 95, nett 74, Sue Shortland 97, nett 75, and Sue Jordan 100, nett 75.
The Committee Cup was played in conjunction with the competition and Ann Saywell completed a notable double by claiming the trophy from club captain Tony Ranger 91, nett 75.
Meanwhile, new members Tracey Dodman and John Gulliver joined forces to win the Yorke Trophy after amassing 40 stableford points.
The runners-up were Judith Wells and Tony Ranger 38 from Lynn and Denis Blasdale 37.
Lynn and Denis Blasdale were the best scoring married couple which secured the Garner Salver.
Elsewhere at Warwick Golf Club, the father/son partnership of Rob and son Dan Buckingham saw them win the Miles Trophy.
The pairs better ball stroke play format was played in lovely spring conditions with some very close competition.
The Buckingham partnership carded a Net 60 to beat on countback the team of Rick Hughes and John Harris who also scored a net 60.
Tributes were also paid to old member Roy Woolston who sadly passed away last week.
Woolston was one of the club’s oldest and much-loved members and will be sadly missed.
