AVON VALLEY INDOOR BOWLS CLUB are offering free coaching to new and existing players ahead of the Lawn Bowls event at this summer’s Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
The Lawn Bowls competition will be held at Leamington Spa’s Victoria Park at this summer’s Games, which hosts the annual British Championships.
And Avon Valley currently have five coaches with English Bowling Association and Bowls Development Alliance certification and has 300 total members at present.
Free coaching will be offered to all players from ages eight to 80, and five years onwards, with the only cost involved contributing to heat and lighting.
The first coaching session will start on Saturday, February 19 at 10am, those attending are advised to arrive at 9.30am.
Equipment will be provided by the club and new bowlers can take what they have learnt indoors into the outdoor season.
With the Games coming to Leamington this summer, Avon Valley feel there is a great opportunity for new players to take up and learn about the sport.
Those that attend the coaching sessions could then experience the sport in the town when the bowls event commences on Friday, July 29.
Avon Valley was founded in 1976 and was previously used as the Officer’s mess for the RAF Bomber Command and personnel based in Lighthorne Heath.
In 2017, the club became a limited company with seven directors and has a team of Covid aware members to make sure all surfaces are cleaned after every game.
