ROYAL Leamington Spa Bowling Club became the first side from Warwickshire to win the women’s top club competition at the Bowls England National Championships.
The team of Emily Kernick (singles), Michelle Meadowcroft and Kirsty Richards (pairs), Dawn Horne, Anita Cowdrill and Janice White (triples), Caroline Edwards, Chris Leigh, Jenny Wickens and Heather Mills (fours) helped Leamington claim the prestigious national title.
Reserve player Caroline Williams played in several earlier rounds while Jacqui Ashley also supported the team managed by Jerry Horne.
Leamington beat Kings from Devon 3-1 in the final on their home green at Victoria Park.
Kernick beat Kings’ Sophie Tolchard 21-12 in the singles before the double of Meadowcroft and Richards won their match 21-9.
Kings responded to win the triples 26-14 before Leamington’s four triumped 12-11 to clinch the national title.
