CLEARY’S Boxing Gym fighters Jaya Kalsi and Serena Mali won gold and bronze medals respectively representing Team England at the European Boxing Championships in Maribor, Slovenia.
Kalsi, aged 13, overcame Poland’s Maja Kuran, Greece’s Evangelina Leon and Ukraine’s Myroslava Yefremova en route to the final.
And the Leamington boxer then beat Armenia’s Anahit Harutyunyan by unanimous decision in the under-48kg weight category to become European champion.
Mali, aged 14, took bronze in the under-46kg weight category after reaching the semi-finals where she came up short against eventual gold medallist Ella Archbold from Ireland.
Coach Edwin Cleary said: “Jaya and Serena have done brilliantly. They are a dream to coach. They come in and do everything we ask them to do when we ask them to do it.”
Jaya became national champion for the second time earlier this year and also won gold at the Three Nations event in Wales.
And Mali claimed a third national title back in May before then winning silver at the Three Nations competition in Cardiff.
