CLEARY’S Boxing Gym’s latest international star Aman Kumar claimed a silver medal last weekend, when representing England in the GB Schools Three Nations tournament.

Coach Edwin Cleary believes Kumar was slightly hard done by the end result, after he lost by a split decision to the unbeaten Welshman Danny Thomas in the under-50kg final.

Despite defeat, the Cleary’s boxer can take great heart from going so close in his first ever international in the England vest, having dominated large parts of the contest.

Kumar more than matched up to the lively Thomas in the opening round, which he then followed up with a confident display of boxing in the second round.

The third and final round continued the intensity and his good timing of shots, but the judges ultimately ruled the fight in the favour of the blue corner.

It was only Kumar’s ninth contest in his first full season as a boxer, so can only use the experience as a learning curve to build on the talents that he is already demonstrating at 13 years of age.
