A UNANIMOUS decision gave Cleary’s boxer James Quinn a debut win in Nuneaton on Saturday night.
Quinn went up against East Middlesbrough ABC fighter Emmanuel Apolloni, who had also won in his first bout a week previously, and was immediately put under pressure by his opponent.
After surviving a lively start from Apolloni, the debutant impressed with his fitness and technique, helping him earn a first career win.
Head coach Edwin Cleary had plenty of positive words for the junior fighter and said: “James has the heart of a lion, he’s totally dedicated to training, is very fit and can punch.
“He has loads to work on, which will come with time and experience.
“He’s a character in the gym and gets on with everyone which will only help him to develop.
“We are over the moon with him and look forward to seeing his career unfold.”
Elsewhere, Jaya Kalsi returned from Dubai and went straight into a skill bout with Eden Killkenny, another fighter from East Middlesbrough.
Cleary was pleased with the outcome of the session, adding: “With Jaya, we take what we can, we want bouts but, with her being away on holiday, the skill bout was best.”
