Cleary's boxers unluckily bow out of championships on close calls

Craig Gibbons 13th Apr, 2018

TWO of Cleary’s talented boxers bowed out of the Elite ABAS Championships on what were very close decisions.

Danny Quartermaine fought Tommy Collin (Hall Green ABC) with both fighters holding wins over each other in the past.

Quartermaine, at 64kg for only his second fight, looked to have found his ideal weight and thought he had done enough to win but the judges thought otherwise.

Finch took on Liam Etheridge (Pleck ABC) who was vastly more experienced and proved he was one to watch in the future.

The contest was close but Finch was landing clean shots and came on strong towards the end.

However, the contest was awarded to Etheridge on a split decision.

Coach Edwin Cleary said: “Both boys should hold their heads up high, proving our elite boxers are going in the right direction.”
